Arts University College Bournemouth

The University College was founded over a century ago and has undergone a number of transformations and title changes throughout its history. Originally the Bournemouth Municipal School of Art, it has since been titled the Poole School of Art, the Southern College of Art, the Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design; and latterly the Arts Institute at Bournemouth. Its Alumni include Turner Prize winner, Wolfgang Tillmans; Oscar winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy; and fashion photographer Nick Knight.
Head of institution: Professor Stuart Bartholomew
Professor Bartholomew joined The Arts University College Bournemouth as Principal and Chief Executive in 1997. He is Chair of ukadia, the national association of specialist arts and design institutions, and is widely acknowledged as one of the champions of specialist provision in these subjects as well as a highly experienced manager in the University sector. He is currently active on the Regional Development Creative Industries Task Force, and advising the Department of Culture Media and Sport on skills and entrepreneurship in the creative industries with membership of the Creative Economy programme. Professor Bartholomew is a member of the Prime Ministers Initiative Strategy Group and The Higher Levels Skills Implementation Group at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. Professor Bartholomew was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1999 and is currently Visiting Professor at The University of the Arts, London.
Institution news
The Arts Institute at Bournemouth recently gained the title of University College, following the award of Taught Degree Awarding Powers last year. From 1st July 2009 (and in its 125th anniversary year) it will adopt the new title of Arts University College Bournemouth.
