The College has a 150 year history of provision including over 23 years of higher education courses in art and design, the longest uninterrupted provision in the city. Plymouth College of Art is a lively and dynamic community of art and design students, academic staff and visiting specialists who contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive range of undergraduate, further and community education programmes in the Creative Industries sector. Our tutors are practitioners, specialists, technicians and innovators - the breadth of experience they bring to the college and our students is immense. The College, through its values, ethos, teaching, support staff and students pledges to provide and deliver equality of opportunity for an inclusive range of creative learning opportunities for a diverse range of students. Our aim is to offer a creative environment supported by experienced staff and dedicated learning resources which help students realise their personal ambitions.
Head of institution: Ms Lynne Staley-Brookes
Lynne Staley-Brookes has been Principal since July 2001, having spent over 30 years working with the Creative Industries and art and design education.
Lynne was educated at the University of Nottingham and the Polytechnic of Huddersfield. She is Chair of the Association of Specialist Colleges of Art & Design and contributes to a wide range of national and regional developments. In 1994, Lincolnshire College of Art & Design, at which Lynne was Principal, amalgamated with De Montfort University: the College became a school of De Montfort University. In 1996 Lynne became Director of Quality, and in 1997 Director of De Montfort College with responsibility for HE Collaboration, FE provision and work with the pre-HE sector. Lynne was the Director of Educational Partnerships from September 1999 to June 2001 with responsibility for the University's Associate De Montfort College collaborative network.
